New "Big Green" Recycling Bins

As a reminder, the City of OKC has delivered new recycling bins which will be implemented in July. In the meantime, continue using your "Little Blue" bin. All recycling will be put on hold for the month of June and will resume on a bi-weekly schedule beginning in July. All information is available on your City of OKC utility bill. The new recycling program will be expanding to also include cardboard. If your neighbor has a "Big Green" out on the curb, please help spread the word about the new recycling program to them! For more information or if you have yet to receive your "Big Green," please visit the city website.

Neighborhood Clean Up

Last weekend, April 28th, nine of your neighbors showed up to help trim back dead branches, bramble, and brush from the green area just to the south of the May & 43rd neighborhood entrance. This is an area of concern not only aesthetically, but in terms of safety. There was clear evidence of campfires and possible vagrant occupancy. To dissuade this, we have been working to clean up the area to where it can no longer be used as a hiding place. We knocked out about half of it but still have lots of work to do! We will be planning another cleanup toward the end of May, please keep an eye on the Facebook page for the next clean up day. Come out with gloves and any extra loppers, rakes, saws, etc. you may have to help us restore this area to its previous splendor! If you're not up for a big job such as this, please consider walking your block and picking up litter and clearing debris from storm drains. Together, we can keep our neighborhood beautiful!

Street Sign Toppers

These are the toppers as approved by your Neighborhood Association committee members. Thanks to Erin Cooper of Cooper-House for designing these for our neighborhood! We are still actively seeking sponsors to implement this improvement. If you're interested in sponsoring a topper for only $50, contact us!

Neighbor of the Month

Rick Landtroop & Jeff Zielny are our neighbors of the month for April! They have agreed to sponsor FOUR of our Mayfair Heights sign toppers on Miller including NW 50th, 49th, 48th, and 47th near their home. Rick & Jeff have lived in the neighborhood for 30 years. They are retired and enjoy gardening, cooking, and spending time with their dogs. They have been invaluable to the functioning of the Neighborhood Association! Thank you for your sponsorship and your service! If you see Rick & Jeff walking around the neighborhood with their pups, be sure to wave and say hello!

Yard of the Month

Congratulations to Clyde and Donna Dorr at 2820 NW 43rd Street! Their beautiful garden and lawn was chosen by the Yard of the Month committee for the circular flower bed, nicely trimmed hedges, and array of hanging baskets.

Recipe of the Month

This month's recipe is courtesy of Michelle Meazell, one of her favorites! This recipe is ideal for meal prep as a healthy asian inspired dish.

Egg Roll in a Bowl

Ingredients:
1 pound of protein (chicken thighs are Michelle's favorite!)
bags of tri-color cole slaw
4 cloves garlic, minced
1-2 tablespoon of ginger, minced (start with 1, add more if you like)
1 tablespoon soy sauce (can add more to taste)
1/4 cup chopped green onions
1-2 tablespoon sesame oil (start with 1, add more if you like)
Optional Additions:
Hot chili oil (add at the end)
Mushrooms (add in step 2)
Red onion (add in step 2)
Scrambed egg (add pre-scrambled at step 3)

Instructions:
1. Heat a large skillet over medium heat. Add the protein and cook, stirring often to crumble, until cooked through. Do not drain.
2. Add the coleslaw mix, garlic, ginger, and soy sauce to the skillet with the protein. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the cabbage has softened a bit.
3. Remove from the heat and top with the green onions and drizzle with sesame oil.
4. Serve & enjoy!
