Trick or Treating
A few reminders for Wednesday night when ghouls and superheroes will be walking the neighborhood!
Porchlight ON if you are handing out treats. Check with your neighbors to be sure they understand this tradition as well.
Be sure your trash can or other items are not blocking the sidewalks. This includes your vehicle - do not block the sidewalk, please.
Beware on 43rd and 47th there is a lot of traffic.
If you are out after sunset, carry a flashlight to be sure you are seen in the darker areas of the neighborhood
Have a child with allergies? Be on the lookout for teal pumpkins that signify they have alternative treats for your child. Check 43rd, 46th and 42nd Circle (at time of publishing those are areas known to have teal pumpkins)
Be sure not to litter if you are eating candy along the way!
Drive slowly, eliminate distractions and remain attentive in neighborhoods. Many young children are out for the evening, especially during the peak hours of 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Use EXTREME CAUTION when driving in areas where street lighting is poor especially Miller!
Enter and exit driveways carefully as children are quickly moving through these areas
Utilize a designated driver if you plan to attend a Halloween party where alcohol will be served!
Have a safe and fun Halloween!

Winterizing Tips for your Home & Car
Before our first freeze, make sure to empty out and bring in your outside garden hoses and cover your faucets
Run your ceiling fans in reverse
Check for gaps in windows and doors where caulk or rubber gasket sealers could help keep the cold out and cover outdoor vents (crawl spaces)
BRING IN YOUR PETS! Do not let your pets suffer in the cold.
Make sure you have ice melt on hand in case of ice or snow
Keep a blanket, ice scraper, and extra gloves in your car in case of a breakdown in ice or snow conditions
Be weather aware!
Donations for Monroe Elementary
Friends and Neighbors, Monroe PTA needs your help! Our biggest even, Nacho Bingo, is right around the corner and we need your help to make it a huge success.
Monroe families and teachers will come together for a night of fun and prizes. We try to keep costs as low as possible since over 75% of our children come from low-income homes and this is where you can help. We need nice prizes to give away to children Pre-K to 5th grade. Right now Michaels has a 50% off coupon so for only a few dollars you can donate a really great prize. Any toys including Legos, Play-Doh, art supplies, coloring books, science toys, sports equipment, etc. are welcomed!
If you would like to make a donation (toy or Target/Michaels gift card), please do so by November 9th and drop off at Monroe Elementary with attention to the PTA.
If you have any questions please contact Whitney Junger at 405-413-1824 or by email.
